Scams are becoming more prevalent, but you can protect your information following these helpful security suggestions.

• Check your statements on a monthly basis to ensure they match your records.
• Shred all personal and financial information before discarding.
• Never leave receipts at an ATM, or discard without shredding.
• Never provide personal financial information to anyone on the phone if you did not initiate the contact.
• Never click on the link provided in an email you think is fraudulent.  The link can also contain a virus that can contaminate your computer.
• If you are unsure whether a contact is legitimate, go to the company’s Website instead of the link.
• Report any suspicious e-mails or calls to the Federal Trade Commission.

We have provided helpful links to help you contact authorities if you ever become a victim of identity theft - act immediately to protect yourself.  Alert the credit union, call all your creditors, and monitor your accounts closely.
